Abstract Installation effects on the performance of turbine flowmeters are investigated using numerical simulation method. Results from numerical analysis show that flow disturbances caused by pipe configurations such as single bend, out-of-plane double bends and valves may produce flat, asymmetry and swirl velocity profiles, thus leading to the meter reading error. Placing bends and valves in good locations so that swirls generated as flow pass through them rotate in contrary directions is useful to reduce the swirling intensity so as to lower installation effects on flowmeter measurement accuracy. The upstream stator shows very good performance in terms of swirl, but the flatness and asymmetry relative efficiencies are not very high.
