Abstract A method for predicting the characteristics of an electromagnetic flowmeter was applied based on magnetohydradymics(MHD)and computational fluid dynamics(CFD).MHD simulations can directly study the detailed interaction between the fluid flow and the externally applied magnetic field,including the relationship between the output signal and the flow rate using a two-dimensional model.The results show that the model agrees with the theoretical values,indicating that MHD and CFD can be applied for studying the characteristics of an electromagnetic flowmeter under flow and external magnetic field conditions.
