Abstract Aiming at the effect of measuring distance on calibration results of radiation thermometers, the experimental research was carried out. Both testing data and analytical charts for the several conventional radiation thermometers chosen are shown. The optimal measuring distance of radiation thermometer is defined, which is in the range of 0.3~0.5m to be away from the target surface of blackbody radiation source.
